The Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Rast, Jr., president of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind., prepares his speech shortly before the graduation ceremony for 21 pastors and seven deaconesses led by Bishop Emmanuel Makala on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania – South-East of Lake Victoria Diocese's (ELCT-SELVD) Ebenezer Cathedral in Shinyanga, Tanzania. It was the first pastoral and deaconess class from the Bishop Makala Training Center, a 2-year program taught by Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., which stemmed from a partnership between the LCMS and the ELCT-SELVD.
